When life leaves you high and dry
I'll be at your door tonight
If you need help, if you need help.

I stood outside of her house in the rain. I had this odd feeling and I always wanted to be there to help her and protect her. I pressed my finger on the doorbell.
Almost immediately, the door swung open, revealing a teen with messy (h/c) hair and wearing a (f/c) t-shirt and jeans. That was (y/n).
"Arthur? What are you doing out here?" she asked, concerned.
"I-um, I-" I stuttered. What was I doing here?
"Well, don't just stand there!" she laughed, "Come on inside! You must be freezing!"

I'll shut down the city lights,
I'll lie, cheat, I'll beg and bribe
To make you well, to make you well.

As she led me inside, I noticed that the place was a mess. The tv had been ripped out of the wall, picture frames missing off of the walls, leaving just lonely nails as reminders.
"What happened?" I asked, startled.
"Oh, right," she said sadly, "my ex, well, now he's my ex, just moved out taking what was apparently 'his' with him."
"What kind of gentleman would do such a thing?!" I gasped.
(y/n) laughed.
"Gentleman? That's rich! He was nothing b-but a slimy p-pig!" she said, crying a little.
I sat her down on the couch, "Shh, shh, don't cry, love. Just so you know, I would never do such a thing. I'd cheat, lie, beg, bribe. I'd do anything to keep you happy."
(y/n) blushed. "R-really?"
"Of course."

When enemies are at your door
I'll carry you away from more
If you need help, if you need help.

The doorbell rang.
"Would you like me to get it?" I offered.
"No, no, I've got it." she said, getting up off of the couch.
"Ok, I'll help you clean up." I said, starting to clean up fallen over pictures.
When she opened the door, a tall boy stood in the doorway with a bouquet.
"Babe, I'm sorry-" he started as he began to wrap her into a hug.
"No!" she shouted, pushing him away, "I am done with you!"
"It was once! She meant nothing to me!" he said.
"One too many! Just go!" she shouted again.
She slammed the door in his face and walked back to the couch, putting her head in her hands.
I sat next to her, and put a arm around her shoulders.

Your hope dangling by a string
I'll share in your suffering
To make you well, to make you well.

"I just know anymore. I always feel like I'm doing it wrong." she said.
"Doing what wrong?" I asked.
"Life."
"If it makes you feel better, people constantly tell me that I'm doing life wrong too."
She looked at me with tear-filled eyes. "Really?"
"Really." I said, feeling a pang of spite towards the people who said it to me.

Give me reasons to believe
That you would do the same for me.

All of the sudden, she hugged me.
"You know, about the thing where you told me that you'd do all of those things for me," she whispered, "I would do the same for you too. You're the best friend that anyone could have."
I mentally sighed. Friends, that's all that we will always be.
"Thanks, love." I said.
"Of course." she sighed.

And I would do it for you, for you.
Baby, I'm not moving on
I love you long after you're gone.
For you, for you.

"I think that I should leave." (y/n) said as she released me from the embrace.
All of the color drained from my face. "W-what?!"
"I mean, you're the only friend that I have here. Maybe I should go and start all over again." she said.
"You are the only friend that I have!" I argued.
"I don't know. I'm just thinking about it." she said, rubbing her temples.
"If you leave," I sighed, "Know that you will always be my best friend."
"Same. No one would ever be able to replace you." (y/n) said.
I smiled and squeezed her hand.

You will never sleep alone.
I love you long after you're gone
And long after you're gone, gone, gone.

She squeezed my hand back and stared at the living room.
"God, it's a mess." she said, exasperated, "It's going to take me all night to clean up."
"I'll clean it up for you," I offered, "I mean, if it's ok with you, love."
She smiled, "That's sweet, but I've got it."
I looked her in the eye, "I mean it, I'll do it all for you."
"You're not going to let me say no, are you?" she said.
"No, ma'am!"
"Fine. You can stay the night if you want too." she offered, getting up from the couch.
"No, it's ok, love-" I started.
"You can either stay the night and clean or just go."
"Fine,"
"One more thing," I said, finally gathering up the courage to do this.
"What?"
I got up and kissed the (h/c).
She jumped, startled.
I stopped and took a deep breath, "(f/n) (l/n), I love you I will love you even when you are gone."
(y/n) hugged me back. "I love you too, Arthur."
